a glimpse into mindful living with i am yoga
meet the founder
Ritu, founder of i am yoga Singapore, was born and raised in Belgium with Indian roots. Her journey is a unique blend of high-energy global professional environments and deep-seated eastern traditions.
Before finding her true calling on the yoga mat, Ritu worked in fast-paced international settings — working at a marketing role in Brussels, serving at the Belgian Mission to the United Nations in New York, and specializing in Banking & Finance recruitment in Hong Kong.
Yoga has been part of Ritu’s life since childhood, where she experienced first-hand its profound mental, physical, and emotional benefits. For the past decade, she has traded spreadsheets for sun salutations, dedicating herself to teaching yoga to a vibrant community of adults, children, and seniors in Singapore.
philosophy
Ritu’s approach to yoga goes far beyond physical practice. She believes yoga is a tool for total personality development — supporting not only physical health, but also mental clarity, emotional balance, and self-awareness.
Yoga, in her philosophy, is not a competition but a lifelong journey. Students are encouraged to honour their bodies, respect their limitations, and progress at their own pace — cultivating patience, kindness, and compassion toward themselves and others.
Her personal experience as a parent of two teenagers in Singapore deeply informs her teaching, allowing her to connect meaningfully with both children and families navigating modern life.
style & certification
Ritu is a Yoga Alliance – certified instructor for both adults and children. Her training spans several traditional yoga styles, including Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Yin, and Restorative yoga.
She brings extensive experience teaching diverse communities across Hong Kong and Singapore, with past engagements including:
The Canadian International School, Hong Kong
The American Embassy, Singapore
Buds at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore
Her international background, professional experience, and deep understanding of family life allow her to offer a thoughtful, inclusive, and grounded yoga practice for students of all ages.
elevate the essential
Through years of teaching, Ritu beganto notice a recurring issue in studios and classrooms alike: yoga props that were uninspired, flimsy, and purely functional.
Most blocks on the market were lightweight foam — prone to slipping, quick to wear, and indistinguishable from one another. Mass-produced and logo-stamped, they lacked both personality and performance. Yet yoga props are foundational to practice, supporting alignment, confidence, and safety for practitioners of all ages.
With a decade of hands-on teaching experience, one thing became clear: students deserved better. Yoga props could be essential and expressive — high-performing tools that inspire confidence, creativity, and joy on the mat.
